Julien SOLÉ Gotlib, une vie en Bandessinées

Presentation

This year marks the 50th anniversary of an iconic monthly French comics magazine. The perfect moment, therefore, for the publishers of Fluide Glacial to bring out a moving biography of the magazine’s founder, Gotlib, a life in comic strip written by Arnaud Le Gouëfflec, with drawings by Julien Solé. Together, writer and artist retrace the comic genius’s exceptional career, decade by decade. Marcel Gotlib is one of the best-known names in the world of French comics. From Gai Luron to Rubrique-à-Brac, Les Dingodossiers to Hamster Jovial, Pervers Pépère to Superdupont, Rhââ Lovely to Rhâ-gnagna, and not forgetting his autobiography, J’existe, je me suis rencontré, Gotlib’s œuvre continues over the years to delight generations of readers of both genders. His career also coincides with the heyday of France’s comics press, from Vaillant to Fluide Glacial, via Pilote and L’Écho des Savanes. In this biography of Marcel Gotlib, Julien Solé and Arnaud Le Gouëfflec successfully reveal the complexity and poignant humanity of the work of an extraordinary man, and its universal appeal.

Huberty & Breyne is delighted to mark this important anniversary in the Fluide Glacial calendar by showing a selection of original plates by Julien Solé illustrating Marcel Gotlib’s life. The exhibition is also an opportunity – a rare one – to put some pages by Gotlib himself on public display.
