First came Come Prima. Published in 2013, the album was a resounding success. It was awarded the Fauve d'or at the Angoulême International Comics Festival in 2014 and later adapted for the big screen and as a musical. Come Prima was followed, in 2019, by Senso, also published by Éditions Delcourt. And finally, in 2023, Maltempo
completed the trio, to form a trilogy unlike any other. For each of these three books, Alfred took his inspiration from Italy, its light, its nostalgia and its songs, both happy and sad ? to create memorable settings in which each of his characters plays a prominent role. Every one of his pages is charged with emotion. Two brothers are at odds during a melancholy road trip; a forty-year-old finds himself adrift in a hotel no less dreary; an aimless youth dreams of a future in music. And the same emotional charge invests Alfred?s drawings and illustrations evoking trans-alpine life. Forming the centrepiece of this exhibition, they demonstrate the graphic range of a most singular artist, one whose work is deeply moving. Come and judge that for yourselves!
