Presentation

Loustal has been bringing out comic albums for 40 years, each new publication a landmark event. His work first started appearing in magazines at the beginning of the 1980s, with contributions to Rock & Folk, (À Suivre), Métal Hurlant and Pilote. The author of both short comics and graphic novels and the recipient of numerous prizes and critical accolades, Loustal has sometimes worked solo but more often in collaboration with the likes of Paringaux, Fromental, Charyn, Coatelem, Götting, Lehane, Villard and Benacquista, producing works that are moving from both a narrative and an aesthetic point of view but also coupled with moments of humour. This retrospective exclusively dedicated to Loustal’s comic albums gives viewers an insight into the stylistic evolution of an artist equally at home in colour and in black and white, inviting them to go back in time and experience the emotional impact of albums of which these original plates form the very essence.
